We, Michael and Jennifer, retired from the UK and came to live
in the unspoiled village of Eptagonia (Eptagoneia, Eftagonia), on the beautiful Island of Cyprus in July
2006.
Eptagonia is situated some 20 kilometres North of Limassol, at
a height of 1500 feet, on the edge of the Troodos mountain range. Eptagonia is a typical Cypriot village of around 400 persons. Six British families have
houses within the village.
The local Cypriot community are mainly fruit and vegetable
farmers, producing oranges, mandarins, grapefruit, grapes, pomela, olives, water melon, and a variety of
vegetables.
We have 7 olive trees in our garden, which in 2009 produced 350
kilos of olives to take to the local olive mill. The output from our olives at the mill was some 63 litres of
olive oil. We are lucky to have friends to help with the combing of the olive trees; two days of hard
work.
Our house is a typical Cypriot village house of concrete
structure with no insulation, so very warm in the summer and cold in the winter months.
